IC INFORMATION
Name: Salome
Canon: Virche Evermore
Age: ~70+, physically and mentally 21
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Appearance: Here! Salome is a human with long, pink-ish hair with purple eyes and iridescent blue-colored pupils. This paired with the tattoo that she has on her chest are key features of being what is called a Reliver, a clone of her former self use to extend her life due to the people of her island being cursed.
Canon point: Post-Common Route.
History:
warning for heavy virche evermore spoilers, especially for the le salut route
Before taking the name Salome she was once known as Christine Rêvepoir, Queen of Arpéchéle. A country that was cursed by Death itself, secluded from the outside land by the unpredictable oceans surrounding the tiny island, and the people born soon learned that they would die by the mere age of twenty-three. A mere sixty years prior to canon events, Scien Brofiise, the god that brought salvation to their country, developed a miracle to extend their lives with Reliver technology. A cloning system that would be abused by the Royal Family and sought after by the common people who bled and cried just to earn enough money to save themselves from death.
She took the throne after her late brother at the tender age of nineteen, wedding her husband governed according to her cousin's teachings. However, despite her position as Queen, this did nothing to stop the cruelness of her own family; taxing the Reliver manufacturing technology
Three years later, however, Christine would rewrite the laws related to Relivers, and gave jobs to the impoverished who were in danger of having no future apart from death. She did not wish to rely solely on the Reliver technology for herself and the people of Arpéchéle, especially since it meant so many lives left behind due to it's limited process. She then began to dive into the research of the curse of Death itself, claiming it to be the Royal Family's duty to take immediate action with the investigation. When she offered this claim to her family, no one apart from her husband supported her ideals and began to make effort in stopping her from uncovering the truth behind the curse.
Christine soon discovered a hidden chamber within the Royal Family's library, conducting her own investigation.
Hundreds of years ago, when the country of Arpéchéle was born and before contact was severed with the outside world, the land was cursed by death due to the Rêvepoir Family developing biological weaponry to protect the country's borders from being invaded by the outside world. This resulted in the soil being contaminated by the toxins that eventually mutated the people's genes. Christine came closer to finding this truth, confronting her family with the bits of information that she discovered, only to have her own blood to plan to assassinate her.
Despite having survived an attempt at her life she escapes to a couple supportive of her research, aware that the Royal Family has likely set a trap waiting for her; erasing her backup and dooming her to a death in which she would never again revive, similarly how they killed her late husband who was struck with the curse and died. And her suspicions would come true, cornered into the lycoris fields before praying for the safety of her child and being killed.
Christine's reign as Queen was short lived, with all the good she did being undone by the next king; her legacy fallen into obscurity, the portraits of her destroyed in the process. Within history books they state that she had fallen ill due to a plague and passed away with her son, the heir.
This is where "Salome" is born. Revived by Scien behind the back of the Royal Family, she establishes the Society of Exorcists; a group that decries Reliver technology and believes in the people of the country living and dying as humans. Originally she used the group as a façade to continue her investigation on the curse, but was once again killed by Ortie, a former researcher of the National Research Institute, and went back into hiding after having her face altered.
She then began raising children at a government funded orphanage, sending those with talent to work as researchers under Scien at the Institute. Originally only taking in Ceres, a girl claimed to be Death itself due to the misfortune she brings onto others, after Adolphe's pleaded her, believing that both could possibly be the key to uncovering the truth behind the curse of death.
Seven years later and Salome continues to care for Ceres despite many approaching the orphanage demanding that she be left to die. The country is plagued with a new fear: a serial killer let loose that targets Relivers, a mountain of corpses beginning to overwhelm the island cursed by death.
Personality answers:
Explain which event in canon is most pivotal to your character's development, and who they are today.
The day of her husband's death. Killed by the greed of her family and Salome's drive to discover the truth of the curse, this event - as well as her son's presumed death - becomes the catalyst that drives her hatred towards the Rêvepoir Family. Salome had married her cousin due to the political advice of the Royal Family, and for all of her life she had never felt loved within the walls of the palace. But she and her husband grew to genuinely have love and respect for each other, a concept so foreign in her world that when they tore it away from her she swore that she would have her revenge. This is a resentment that runs so deep that it causes the story to shift completely depending on Ceres's choices.
However this hatred also births a genuine love that Salome holds in regards to Arpéchéle and it's children, especially in regards to Ceres. Instead of fearing the girl that the people call Death, Salome demonstrates to the children that Ceres is a normal girl - eating her food, sleeping beside her, and giving her chances to live without ostracizing her from the other children. She could not give Liam, her son, the life that he deserved, but she will do what she can for the ones in her orphanage.
What is your character most afraid of?
Throughout the game Salome exhibits her protectiveness over her children, especially towards the main character Ceres and her adoptive son Adolphe. Having already lost her own child, Liam, the idea of losing another frightens her - not because of the curse, as that is just the natural order of their country, but to that of the cruelness of the Royal Family and anyone with close ties to them.
She expresses hesitation when Ceres makes the decision to work with Scien, familiar with his cruelty while experimenting; killing criminals inhumanly in order to expand the Reliver research. Salome makes a matter to emphasize this as to warn Ceres that she cannot allow his suspicion of her as "Death" to go any further than that, afraid that she may lose her to the man claimed to be God.
Another example of this fear causing great stress for Salome is during the common route when Ceres runs away from the orphanage with Adolphe's knife. She faints out of the sheer thought that a precious child under her care may take her own life; something that she believes would be prevented as long as she regards her as a normal girl deserving of love.
What would your character say is their best trait? What is truly their best trait?
If asked, Salome would likely say it's her caregiving and cooking skills. These are skills and traits that she learned when taking up the orphanage, and so she finds pride in these activities that she was discouraged from learning while growing up.
Realistically, her best trait is her unwavering resilience. Despite having been killed by her own blood, forced to watch the one person who loved her unconditionally die at their hands, and the assumption that they had also killed her young son in the process, Salome remained resilient. Wanting nothing more than to survive so that she may avenge her lost loved ones; adapting quickly to her new life, with another name and unfamiliar face, for the sake of revealing the lies of the Royal Family. Her childhood dream had always been to bring an end of the curse of their island, stating that everyone deserved to feel the love and warmth of the hands of the person they cherished most.
Even when she is stabbed and killed, betrayed and deceived, struck by the one person she wanted to see the most, Salome is determined to live.
What would it take to truly upset your character, enough that they would act upon their feelings? Are they the sort to forgive?
Endangering her children will quickly encourage Salome to grow panicked and protective, enough that she will act upon better judgement if it means that she is protecting them. When Ceres makes the decision to work with Scien she is just moments away from outright slapping her after taking offense to his comments towards her daughter, and has to be physically held back by Adolphe.
On the topic of Scien it should be noted that, despite their comradery, their relationship is muddied. After becoming one of the first Relivers after he had completely the procedures she soon learned of his research and what it all entailed. But considering that he is the reason she is still alive she couldn't necessarily call him an enemy, either, not in the same degree that she would the Royal Family who she's unwilling to put her resentment aside for the good of the group. So much so that she endangers the rest by acting as either a major or minor conflict to their plans depending on player choices. Salome, a character often described as calm and nurturing, becomes a fervent animal on the hunt to kill; when she is left broken after certain events in the game, she'll even be willing to stab her own daughter in a means of "protecting" her from the possibility of being another precious person she loses to the Royal Family.
Inventory: A knife; her diary; a handful of chamomile tea leaves.
Powers/Abilities: While not necessarily a power or ability, Salome's body is a cloned version of her human self with two faults: the body can only survive for twenty-three years and due to limited memory capacity strong emotions couldn't be transferred to her body. There is an "alert function" within her heart that is set to go off under extreme emotional stress, which can result in a "memory crash" - Salome will exhibit extreme stress and pain. And due to love being the complex and volatile of human emotions, after five alerts Relivers who experience this pain lose their sanity and try to forcefully remove their hearts in a mad frenzy.
She is capable of administrating first aid and tending to wounds. And while she may not be a scientist, she is familiar with some chemicals and poisons.

Player Goals: I'm interested in writing Salome and how she would react to a new setting as well as people outside of her country. What will she do without having the responsibility of the orphanage? How will she respond as the game progresses and we find more about what threatens the setting of this world spreading to her own, that is already plagued with it's own curse? Salome is a very emotionally driven and I tend to gravitate towards those types of characters in hopes of writing their reactions to new development of themselves. Salome has very little time within Virche Evermore to separate herself from being a mother, and there is a bit of her narrative that explores autonomy and having it stripped away from her - such as being forced to become a Reliver without her consent, or marrying her cousin due to the Royal Family's politics. I believe that introducing the Natural Soul will be an interesting inclusion while writing her within the setting.
